Talking about Lorenz and baseball...

Funny thing, I was listening to NPR this afternoon and heard the annoucer talk about (what sounded like) a Lorenz contraction while watching a baseball game, immediately my mind went to a friend who is a big Yankees fan

Lorentz contraction

(lôr´?nts) , in physics, contraction or foreshortening of a moving body in the direction of its motion, proposed by H. A. Lorentz on theoretical grounds and based on an earlier suggestion by G. F. Fitzgerald; it is sometimes called the Fitzgerald, or Lorentz-Fitzgerald, contraction.
